Noise risk assessment template

A noise assessment measuring the noise levels on the site, giving daily noise exposure figures, assessing hearing protection suitability and identifying who needs training or health surveillance is a significant chunk of the noise risk assessment requirements, but is not quite all of it and employers do need to pull all this information together into a noise risk assessment.

But fear not, a noise risk assessment is not massively complicated and if you have the noise assessment, the training, PPE, hearing testing, etc. then you have pretty much all of it. All a noise risk assessment does is create one central reference point for it, effectively one document managing it all. There is a free noise risk assessment template here you can use if helpful.

This is what the Noise Regs want as the outcome and a nosie risk assessment needs to be done by the employer, but don’t panic, it is not massively onerous and the bulk of the work has been done for you in the noise assessment.

The noise risk assessment is composed of:

  • The noise assessment identifying noise exposure levels, hearing protection requirements, health surveillance needs, signage, etc.

  • The health surveillance records and key outcomes.

  • Training records for noise safety

  • PPE records, covering selection, issuing and monitoring system to check usage.

  • Any planned maintenance works impacting on noise safety

You do not have to rewrite a massive risk assessment! The noise risk assessment can simply be a basic document referencing the other noise safety measures in place.
